Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is the oldest form of medicine and continues to be the most widely used form of healthcare in the world. Herbal medicine is the use of plant-based medicines to remedy ill health and can be used to treat a variety of both chronic and acute conditions associated with:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Digestive disorders

  • Allergies

  • The immune system

  • Skin problems

  • Fatigue and low energy

  • Sleep disorders

  • Nutrition

  • Women's health

  • Joints and bones

  • Heart & circulation

As a holistic therapy, herbalists take a patient centred approach to treatment with advice tailored to each individuals needs, meaning no two people will leave with the same prescription even if they present with the same condition. Through their training herbalists know what herbs can and can't be prescribed in certain conditions, such as pregnancy. Herbal medicine can work to complement orthodox medication, as such, herbalists are also fully trained in drug-herb interactions and contraindications; therefore, maintaining an excellent safety record. Indemnity insurance is mandatory for all NIMH members.

Initial Consultation

An hour long consultation specific to your health needs. I will take a detailed assessment of your current health issues, previous medical history, diet and lifestyle and social and emotional health. A physical examination may also be carried out if appropriate. Blood pressure and pulse are routinely taken. I will then prescribe personalised herbal medicine which may be in the form of a tincture, tea or topical application such as a cream, balm or gel. If necessary individual dietary plans and lifestyle advice along with recommendations for appropriate supplements will also be provided.

Follow up Consultation

Follow up consultations are usually at 2-4 weeks after the initial consultation depending upon the person and the condition. They typically last around 30 minutes and cover any changes in your health. At this stage the herbal prescription may be altered to reflect these changes.
